We will take time to fill out the worksheet. I will collect them at the end

You will get them back next time and can revisit the answers to

correct them.

Go to THIS WEBSITE and find a style that inspires you. Research this

style and find insparation for your design.

STEP 3:
Make a sketch of what your "empty room"...

this will be  a room that is deserted of people

Your room can be in a house, or building. What sort of room will you make? Think about how you might make it.

What style inspres you? How will this infulance your sketch?

Create a sketch or two of a the room you want to make.

Think about who were the people who inhabitated it. What would they have used or owned? What kind of people were they?

Ask "Why are they not there now?" Did they leave? Why did they leave? Is it still under construction?

Use the hand out to assist you in making your interior design. (The work sheet will be graded later in the unit).

When you have a good sketch, ask Miss Brink to take a look, and get you the "Okay."

(Have your work sheet done in order to move on!)

STEP 4:

Find the approxamate sizes for walls, ceilings, and floors. Below are some standard sizes which you might need. If you do not find what you are looking for try looking it up online. Maybe you might need to search the size of a product like a dish washer. In that case maybe looking on an appliance store's website for dimetnions mgiht help.

COMON SIZES:

Walls:

8ft tall is normal height

9ft tall Raised ceiling

10ft tall Victorian, or old farm homes often had this measurment.

16ft tall is just under a two story room.

20ft tall for some factory open spaces, but they can vary greatly depending on the needs of the factory.

Chair Rails:

1/3 up the wall

(32in up 8ft wall)

(36in up 9ft wall)

(40in up 10ft wall)

Floors:

Bedrooms:

10ft x 11ft is a comfortably small bedroom. It can fit a full size bed.

12ft x 12ft  is a nice distance for a modern bedroom. This nicely fits a full size bed.

Dining Rooms:

11ft x 18ft is a nice size dining room fitting a 10-seater dining room table

Living Spaces:

11ft x 13 ft small living room.

12ft x 17ft  small-medium living space.

15ft x 23ft medium-large livingroom.

Doors:

H: 6ft 8 in x W: 2ft 8in. Interor doors (bedroom doores for example)

H: 6ft 8 in. x W: 3ft Wider interior door.

*** I think we would be fine to adjust the height to 7ft for simplicity

Windows:

At least 1ft down from the ceiling.

Beds:

in progress...

Fridges:

H: 73in x 36in large double door with drawr fridge.

Floor plans: Try this site. It has lots of floor plans that might have the size of a room you need: http://www.floorplans.com/

Furnature sizes: You will have to convert the inches to feet, but this site has a great list of furnature for those who are doing house-hold rooms: https://www.highlandwoodworking.com/library/furnituredimensions.pdf

Subway Train: Ooo it's Wikipedia... not always reliable, but it does have some information on its sizes. Might be worth a check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R142A_(New_York_City_Subway_car)
