To My Students

"Favorite Things"

"My name is Miss Brink, and I was born and raised in ohio. I have two brothers and one sister. I also have a cat named George. My mother is from Austrlia and so is her family. I love traveling everywhere, but my favorite place is to go see the family in Tasmania, Austrlia.

Art is one of my favorite things in the world. I can't remember a time I didn't love to draw. I took every art class I could when I was in school; when I graduated I decided that art class was where I did my best and art teachers helped me, so I wanted to do the same for others. I went to University, and graduating. Now I am looking for a school to be an art teacher at.

I make all kinds of art, but I think my favorites are drawing, painting, and photography. Making portraits or art about people is what I like to create most of all. I like to make pictures that are realistic like a photography, but I LOVE to look at art that is abstract or isn't like a photograph at all.

Some other things I like are movies and TV shows, I love to listen to peple read me stories--I can't get enough of them-- and my favorite animals are cats (but I also really like owls and octopi).

My favorites:

Painters: Rembrandt, Sargent, Gentileschi, Manet, Degas

Photographers: Lara Jade, Jean-Sebastien Monzani, Zhang Jingna

BooksHarry Potter, Stardust, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Eragon,

Ranger's Apprentice,

TV Shows: Firefly, Sherlock, Dr. Who, Inside Natures Giants, Fringe,

Movies: The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, The Lion King, Stardust, Mary

and Max,

Music: "Drops of Jupiter" by, Trian, "Fidelity" by, Regina  Spektor,

"The Con" by, Tegan & Sara. I also like to listen to Sara Jackson-Holman, Kate Miller-Hidke, Birdy, and Ingrid Michealson

Colors: Dark Blue

Food: Australian Cadburry Milk Chocolate.

I really look foward to getting to know all of you, and learning the things you like! Art is a fun place to learn new things and about new places. I hop you enjoy learning with me and find your favorite kinds of art.

About Sarah Christine Brink:

"My name is Sarah Christine Brink, and I was born and raised in the Nortwest Ohio area. My mother's and her family is from Australia, so we try to visit as often as we can. I come from a family of six, and I am the second youngest.

I have always loved art. There isn't a single moment in my life I can't remeber not loving to draw. In school art was the place I felt I excelled most and art educators were the ones who helped me become the artist I am today. I want to help students explore visual art and discover our world.

Art class is a great place to apply skills learned in other classes and from other parts of life. It is also a great place to express thoughts, feelings, emotions, and opitions. One of my favorite books stardust by Niel Gaiman has the exherpt "Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?I ask are we human because we make art, or do we make art because we are human?  I think either way, art making is a part of being human and being able to teach students such an intigral part of our humanity is an honor. I believe deeply in the care and development of students. They should come first, their needs are of utmost importance... and I belive that the visual arts will help them to find the uniques skills that are needed in life--problem-solving, creativity, anilitical ablities, and so many others. I love being a part of helping a student discover through art.

I primarily am a portrait artist, and often work in drawing/painting or photogrpahy. However, I know a lot of various mediums and techniques in all manner of mediums in art. I enjoy learning new ways to make art 2-D or 3-D. Art is the subject that came most naturally to me, and I can't learn enough about it--from art history to actualy creating the work. When teaching my students I hope they can share my enthusiasm.

I am currently enrolled in my final year at Bowling Green State University majoring in Art Education (two-dimensional studies, focusing on painting & drawing). I will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education and a license to teach K-12. I am very exsited to have a chance to go out and start my own art class with new students."

"Are we human

because we gaze at the stars,

or do we gaze at them

                                  because we are human?"

-Neil Gaiman, Stardust

                      "Are we human

       becuase we make art,

                                     or do we make art

                            becuase

                                        we are human?"
